Torpedo -bearers had to perform the tasks unusual for them - bombing of the advancing Nazi troops in the daytime. There were no coverage of fighters. Our bombers went to the target with the rear and bombed the bridge. When returning to the base, the planes were attacked by three fascist ME fighters of the Igashov crew, one Messer was shot down, but their plane itself was damaged by fire.
He began to lose height, at that time he was attacked by another four MEF. Then Igashov pulled his plane towards them and the tail of one fighter put the tail of one wing to his right wing. After that, he directed the burning plane to the enemy’s column, accumulated at the crossing of the river. None of the crew members of the aircraft attempted to leave the dying car, which indicates a “fiery ram”, perfect by the unanimous decision of all four aircraft.
This was the first taran of air and ground targets in one battle in the history of aviation. After the war, the schoolchildren of the city of Daugavpils, along with the teacher V.
