Biography Rashid Khalikov

Rashid Khalikov: “All the time there is hope that the mind will prevail” Rashid Khalikov: “All the time there is hope that the mind will prevail” on August 18, load Rashid Khalikov on August 18 - an optimist by nature. And this is despite the fact that over 20 years of work at the UN, he has seen enough suffering and death. Rashid was the coordinator of the humanitarian operation in South Asia after the tsunami of the year, he helped people in Syria, Libya, Pakistan, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan.

Three and a half days spent in the car. They then allowed people from the side for the first time. The situation was abnormal: force was used on both sides. When the guns work, the head is silent. Ev: was it dangerous? RX: Not really. In Syria, people surrounded cars six times. For the first time, these were women in black, these are traditional clothing. It was very scary.

They surrounded us, and cars do not move anywhere. What to do with them? Ev: Did they want something? RX: This was their first contact with the outside world. There were only women, because all men were arrested. On the same day near Damascus, I told the spiritual leader that we became his burden. He asked: “Why? I replied: “What do you not hear, how many people gathered in the square?

He coped with this task, took a megaphone and said that they would let us leave calmly. And we left there. There were seven or eight cars, all the Oon organizations participated. It was a long time ago. Now this is another country. Ev: Are your impressions of North Korea? Such a closed country ... RX: I was there too for a very long time. The Central Emergency Fund was then the main source of humanitarian financing for North Korea.

From this fund, $ 16 million was given to North Korea in a year. They accepted the delegation that came there. We drove along North Korea. I find it difficult to say how there. We spent about 5 days on the way. There are no cars on the roads, they saw two buses ... Ev: Have you seen people? RX: Yes, they saw how people manually raised rice. It is very difficult to stand in the rain, knee -deep in water.

This probably has a long -term effect on the body. It was very difficult there. In all hospitals, I asked the chief doctors what they needed. In most cases, they answered that they needed ambulance. One of the hospitals was a hospital, and they did not have an ambulance. I asked: “And how do women in labor come to you? They showed the chambers and what was made by the World Health Organization for money received from the Central Emergency Fund.

I asked if people understand that this is all thanks to the generosity of the world community. In most cases, they answered in the affirmative. In North Korea, state institutions are not called “orphanages” for children, but use the word “nurseries” - “nursery”. But these children have no parents. Koreans have black hair, and the children had the same color only with spots.

They begin irreversible processes, because the necessary amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats does not enter the body. It was scary to look at it. Children were fed with nutrient cookies by biscuits of the World Food Program. Perhaps the children did not understand yet, but all adults knew that this became possible thanks to the international community.

Ev: You saw the best and worst manifestations of human nature - a lot of things have seen. Did your work somehow change you? Your attitude to man and humanity has changed? RX: I can’t say that I saw the bad, because when an emergency arises, many behave in such a way as to show themselves from the best side, they act better than they are. EV: This is when we talk about natural disasters, and when these are the crisis situations that a person created in the same Syria, North Korea ...

The people of their own people will be “spread rot”. In Syria, they were killed and killed now, it is a derivative of the cruelty of people. RX: All the time there is hope that the mind will prevail, that a person will be able to convince that there is no need to hurt another person. Does it work or not? Probably not percent. Does it work at 50, 20 or 70 percent?

It's hard to say. People who are engaged in this should be guided by the fact that they will be able to convince others of not damage to their neighbor - or distant. This is probably the main driving force for the people who work there. I talked with people who find themselves at the front line at the UN, in the Red Cross, in non -governmental organizations. I must say that they are all united by this feeling, that it is necessary to help and can be convinced so that they do not cause evil.

And a huge amount of enthusiasm and energy - overwhelms, hits over the edge. When there was an attack on the UN in Baghdad on August 19, we had 34 people ready to go there - for certain death. The high probability that a person can die there. This is a lot, given that then less people worked in Geneva and New York, that is, every tenth was ready to go. Probably, they were ready to go even more, but their family did not let go.

EV: The interview was supposed to be about you, but so far we are only talking about work.Rashid Khalikov is only a job or is there anything else in life, which warms, inspires, carries? RX: There is a daughter, wife, some interests, but it is very important to help my neighbor.
