After graduating from the University, Gombozhab Tsybikov made his famous journey to the Central Tibet, which began on November 25 and ended on April 4. It was undertaken at the expense of the Russian Geographical Society. At that time, Tibet was closed to entry of foreigners. The exception was made only for the natives of the Asian countries professing Buddhism. Gombozhab Tsybikov became the first scientist from Russia to penetrate the central Tibet and its capital Lhas, visit the largest cities and religious centers of the region and return safely.

Of the Russian travelers, no one in the old days, when Europeans were allowed there, even more so in a new forbidden time, did not penetrate there, ”wrote Tsybikov in a report on the journey of Gombozhab. The scientist wrote about the results of the expedition in the book “Buddhist-pilgrim at the shrines of Tibet”, which is still an authoritative manual on the history, ethnography, religion and culture of the Tibetan people.

His journey opened a new page in the history of Russian and Western European guidelines. Gombozhab Tsybikov became famous as a photographer. In the year, then the little -known American scientific journal National Geographic, founded in October, decided to publish his report on Tibet. The magazine took the Tibetan photographs, granted by Gombozhab Tsybikov and the Kalmyk traveler Norzunov, and placed them on the strokes with small comments.

From this moment, the World Glory of National Geographic began. With the years, Gombozhab Tsybikov worked at the Eastern Institute in Vladivostok. Thanks to the efforts of the scientist, the teaching of the Tibetan language was introduced at the institute since the institute, and in the year he published a "manual for studying the Tibetan language" intended for students.

In years, the researcher returned to Transbaikalia and actively joined in public life. He taught at the Buryat Pedagogical College, made up textbooks on the grammar of the Mongol language, wrote ethnographic monographs. From the year, Gombozhab Tsybikov was listed as a professor at Irkutsk State University. With his participation, the Buryat section of the East Siberian Department of the Geographical Society of the USSR was organized, which issued the famous "Buryatian collection".

The scientist died in his homeland, in Urdo-Age, on September 20. In the year, a documentary painting "Special Purpose", dedicated to the journey of Gombozhab Tsybikov to Tibet, was released. The film was shot by the Star channel with the support of the Russian Geographical Society.
